Life got Crazy

In case anyone is wondering, I am still planning on updating this little ol' blog. I've just been busy getting caught up from this crazy summer. The most insane summer of my life so far. It started off with us moving from Vermilion back to our home town St. Paul, making a (long) trip to Saskatoon, and shooting my first wedding of the year... all in one week! We tried to squeeze in as much fun and family time as possible between all the weddings and other commitments and we did manage to really enjoy it. :) Then the summer ended with our daughter Kyra starting kindergarten! Any mom (or parent) knows how huge that is. This summer brought many big changes and I've been so fortunate to have met so many wonderful people and shared so many memories.
Until I'm caught up and all my clients receive their images, this poor little ol' blog is gonna have to wait. Until then, have a peek at what to expect coming up. And you can always "like" my facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/JacobaRosePhotography to see what I've been up to.

Michelle & Jamison - Edmonton Engagement Photography

I had a great time getting to know this couple. And they did so great despite being shaken up from being in a car accident shortly before our session. Don't worry, no one was hurt, but it's never fun!
This session took place on the same crazy-windy day as Heather & David's session. I was hoping the wind would die down a little bit, but I think it actually just kept getting worse. At one point, as I was kneeling & leaning to get a photo, it actually blew me over. No joke. Tiny bit embarrassing, but at least we had a good laugh about it! We first headed to the Legislature where Jamison works. Despite living in/near Edmonton for nearly 10 years, I don't think I've actually been to the Legislature grounds since our school field trip (in grade 6 maybe?). No wonder so many people get their photos done there, it's beautiful! Then we headed downtown again to hide from the wind by the tall buildings.
Thanks again Michelle & Jamison! I can't wait for your August wedding.

Heather & David - St. Paul, AB Engagement Photos - Edmonton

I met up with Heather & David in Edmonton back in May on probably the windiest day.... ever. I think the wind blew me the whole way to Edmonton. I was a tiny bit worried how the shoot would go with that crazy wind, but we managed to get a little creative, wait for the right timing between gusts and find a little shelter. We started in their back alley at their condo near Whyte Ave, then headed to the river valley, where the wind was just a little too insane,and lastly, we went downtown where the buildings helped us out a lot!
I'm looking forward to their August wedding in St. Paul!

I'm so excited to have a new niece or nephew very very soon!
We did this "session" a few weeks ago, super super quick. And by super quick, I mean in about 10 minutes... and it reminded me again.... there are very good reasons why I don't bring my kids to sessions with me! We had them over for a BBQ and thought we would try to get a few maternity pictures in. We were all outside with too many toys so of course Deklyn didn't want to sit still for pictures! Anyway, we managed to sneak a few at least. I cannot wait to meet the new Robinson Bundle :)

At least we got one with Deklyn! You can see how enthused he was about photos. haha. love him!

We are finally getting settled into our new (and old) home in our new (and old) town ;)
Everything is still a little coo-coo crazy with our schedules and (lack-of) routines. So while I'm a little behind, I still make sure to keep my family first. My absolute #1 priority is my girls. All the giggling, screaming, hugging, whining, goofiness, messiness, cuteness & beautifulness that are my girls. I'm so thankful to have clients who understand and have been so patient while I'm catching up after the move :)
I will be posting sneak peeks of the family/children/engagement sessions and two weddings as I catch up in the next few weeks. Stay tuned! In the meantime, I thought I would share a little of the craziness that I call my life ;)

Angela contacted me awhile ago requesting 9-month photos of her little guy Ryan. After a few failed attempts at getting together due to crazy weather and crazier sicknesses and skin rashes, we finally managed to arrange it..... but it turned into a 10-month session instead ;)

I'm reminded once again how quickly time passes. Last time I saw Angela was at Janelle & Greg's wedding last June when she still had little Ryan in her beautiful baby belly! Both Ethan & Ryan are just adorable. I love all Ryan's many facial expressions. And Ethan was such a polite, happy little guy. It was a fun morning with a fantastic family. Looking forward to getting together again :)

Carley & Curtis Engagment - Vermilion, Alberta Wedding Photographer

It was such a pleasure to meet Carley & Curtis for their engagement session. We chatted over email and phone over the last few months, but it was so nice to meet them in person :) They were really easy-going and a lot of fun. Stephanie & Corey Engagment Session - Elk Point/St. Paul, Alberta Wedding Photographer

Corey & Stephanie's wedding in May will kick off my 2011 wedding season! We met in Lloydminster for their engagement session. We wandered around Bud Miller Park with their boys Nathan & Brayden... who were so well behaved and (mostly) listened when asked not to splash in the puddles ;) hee hee.

It was a beautiful day, but still pretty wet & snowy at the park! Silly me was a little too excited for spring and decided to wear my "breathable" runners instead of boots. Meaning my feet were SOAKED, haha. So I made a quick stop at Walmart (squish squish squish) on the way home for some fresh socks ;)
Even with my babbling, they still made it to the mall in time to pick up Corey's wedding band before heading back to Meadow Lake, SK.

I love this family and I'm so excited for their wedding in Elk Point/St. Paul in May!

I met up with Kari & Zack this past weekend for their engagement session at Kari's parents place north of Mallaig, AB. I was really looking forward to meeting them both. Kari & I had emailed back & forth making arrangements and discussing ideas for their shoot. It was their first ever session with a photographer so even though they were excited for it, they admitted they were a little nervous, but they did fantastic! It was a little different and definitely slower trudging through 4 feet of snow with crazy winds, but it was a blast!

Sarah & Derreck - Elk Point Alberta Wedding Photographer

Sarah & Derreck had a beautiful winter wedding on December 11th in Elk Point. Prior to the wedding, I was only able to meet with Sarah as Derreck lives in Virginia. I liked her immediately, she has such a kind spirit and warm heart :) I only met Derreck about 5 minutes prior to the ceremony, but could tell right away that they are so good together :)
After the ceremony, I noticed the bridal party & family were all introducing each other... the groom's friends & family who came from Virginia (& I believe Pennsylvania?) didn't arrive in time for the rehearsal! Their flights were delayed so they didn't make it on time. But the ceremony was perfect and you never would have guessed it.

I was disappointed we couldn't get any photos of this beautiful couple and their bridal party outside. If everything went exactly according to plan, we would've only had max 10 mins to do some outside, but, the ceremony started a little late and ran a little late, so by the time we got outside it was already pretty dark. I don't think they minded too much though, it was COLD! So we did the best we could indoors.

I love this. Her eyes were LOCKED on her man :)

coooold! and dark... but at least we got one outside ;)

This is actually how they were standing together just waiting for family members to arrive for photos... just so happy to be together, and well, so happy to be MARRIED! :)

I met Meagan & Tim at Budmiller Park in Lloydminster in the afternoon of an absolutely gorgeous day a couple weeks ago. I think everyone else in the whole city was also there, haha. I got there a little early and walked through the crowds to find some nice places for photos. Meagan & Tim have been married for 2 years and wanted a couple's session in time for Christmas. Thankfully a lot of the crowd left before we got started so we were able to use the beautiful locations without hundreds of people in the background. I only had to edit out one bystander! :)

Tom & Katie - Edmonton Wedding Photographer

Katie & Tom were married earlier this summer in France. How romantic! So they planned a reception in July once they were back home from their 10 month trip. I am so honored they chose me to capture their memories from this day!

First I have to say, that Katie looked absolutely STUNNING. You'll see in a minute! We had fantastic weather with beautiful light in downtown Edmonton. We started at the new Edmonton Art Gallery, then headed to the fountain at city hall. I would have been happy to keep taking photos for hours in that beautiful setting with that beautiful bridal party!

Now, anyone who knows me well knows I have a little obsession with shoes. However, over the past 4ish years carrying car seats, diaper bags and two kids have really cramped my shoe style, that, and it's kinda hard to find sexy stilettos in a size 4 (yes, I have freakishly small feet) So, for now, I will live vicariously through my gorgeous clients who have awesome taste ;)

So, congrats Tom & Katie! Thank you again for choosing me to share your day :)

In the weeks leading up to this wedding I was getting more and more excited about it! Greg & Janelle are a fantastic couple with awesome families. Thank you Janelle & Greg and your families! It was an honour to share your day with you.
And Janelle. Lovely, lovely, crazy-beautiful Janelle.... was so much fun and willing to do anything for a great photo! Climb along rocks by a stream, crawl on top of a tractor, and the whole bridal party walked through a dusty, dirty field. LOVE you all for that!

They are such lovely, wonderful, warm, beautiful, kind people.

Luz-Maria is truly and inspiration. A single mother living in Mexico who sacrificed everything for her children. With her hard work, dedication and mainly by trusting in her faith, all three children were able to complete their educations and become successful adults. I only spent about 3 hours with them, but it only takes minutes to see how admired and loved she is. So for a woman who does everything for everyone else... it was wonderful to see a day about her and her husband!

The weather could not have been any worse for their wedding weekend. Friday came with 80km/hr winds, and tons of snow which made the highways pretty scary. I was supposed to head out there for the rehearsal on Friday to meet everyone, and to learn what is all involved in their "Mexican/Canadian" wedding, but didn't get to make it.... I had actually heard at one point that the highway was even closed. Saturday was better as far as travelling, but the wind was still pretty relentless. As a result, we didn't get to take any photos outside :(

But nothing could dampen their spirits! Despite the crazy weather, it truly was a beautiful celebration!

Triple 1st Birthday Party

My Baby Girl Amber turned ONE yesterday! Her cousin Nolan turned one on February 3rd and her cousin Fiona will turn one on March 3rd so we had a joint birthday party at Grammy & Grampy's house on Saturday.
I'm so blessed to have such an awesome family and love it when we can get together. Here's a peek ;)

I had the priviledge of photographing this beautiful new family this past weekend. Baby Deklyn is such a perfect little baby boy! I can't believe what he let us get away with in this shoot, only 6 days old and he was so content, cuddly and just so.... smushable ;) No wonder his parents are so in love with him already!
Oh.... and this perfect new little baby boy? .......he just happens to be our nephew ;) Congrats again James & Raynelle!
